At the annual Hyderabad Book Fair in December 2019 I bought a bunch of books!

17 books to be exact, and some of them are adapted into movies and mini series that I urge you to check out!

  1. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley: The 1998 TV movie was loosely adapted by screenwriter Daniel Mazur and directed by Leslie Libman and Larry Williams.
  2. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt: The 2019 film adaptation was directed by John Crawley and starred Ansel Elgort and Nicole Kidman.
  3. Mother's Milk by Edward St. Aubyn: The 2018 mini-series was titled 'Patrick Melrose' with Benedict Cumberbatch starring as the titular character and directed by Edward Berger.
  4. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt: The 1999 film adaptation was directed by Alan Parker, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Laura Jones.
  5. We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver: The 2011 film adaptation was directed by Lynne Ramsay and starred Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller.

Happy watching and happy reading!

And as imagination bodies forth the forms of things unknown,
the poet’s pen turns them to shapes
and gives to airy nothing a local habitation and a name.
-William Shakespeare

Game on!

A couple more days of procrastination, lazing around and berating myself over not having made any progress with my infant blog, and I can celebrate a two-month anniversary of my new born.

A sudden, hasty and under-constructed decision of starting up a space in this massive and uncharted terrain of the internet world (where I am still a lost-and-found-and-lost-again) and trying to carve up a niche for my baby, I felt so at unease and distressed. During the days that followed my blog’s labor I’d often found myself with low self esteem and even lower will to do anything about this space. Long gone was that spark I’d nursed for years to write, to start a blog.

On the first day (or more like evening) of my new found job I’d desperately knocked at my grey cells and raked my brain trying to crack up with an idea for the numero uno blog post. Having then recently survived the intermediate examinations, all I had buzzing around my head were my poorly written papers and the then very bleak future; and I thought ‘why the hell not just write up a post about the examinations’, the very thing anyone my age dreaded. I didn’t see why anybody would read a post about that so to brighten it up and present a very lucrative blog post, I chucked in a completely irrelevant picture I’d taken from my phone camera of my steadily growing library, making sure I added the book of the season in the picture frame (TFIOS!!!) assuming I’d just presented the candy every 5 year old at the exhibition would get all worked up and cranky for. I’d needed to put myself out there, with anything at all, to let the netizens know about the new kid on the block. It surprisingly worked! Who would’ve bloody thought!

And then followed the blogger’s block. When a couple of interested friends came knocking at my door asking me when I planned on updating I’d meekly avoid eye-contact, then all of a sudden had this faux air of accomplishment like I’m ready to dish out a coupla plenty of my thoughts and inhibitions all of which were to be microscopically misjudged and scrutinized. (I’m all out for that!)

All that I really had to do was fire up my computer and string a sensible sentence reflecting my haywire thoughts in a neat, cozy and composed packet to be scarfed down furiously. And now I’m quite firm on my decision to do just that! I’ll have to constantly fight my discomforts and boost my critically low self-confidence to get there and I’m game for that! Bring it on, head.

In the course of all this I hope to find solace and comfort in my discomforts.

Summer!

Summer reads!

Lana Del Rey’s dulcet tone singing Yayo buzzes around my head while I struggle to concentrate and put pen against paper; striving to remember the answers which I could only hope that I had learnt and time is catching up at its rabbit like pace.

A half hour more and I’ll be done with this last examination but other than trying to remember my answers and lessons, I have this war against examinations waging through my head. I’m quite against it, this system of examinations simply because I don’t find the thrill rushing through my veins when I’m scarfing down the entire year’s syllabus on one single day (and I very well know I should study regularly and 2 months ahead of examinations, but really who does that?!), hoping against hope that I’ll remember what I had learnt and also manage to top the class. Wishful thinking.

I’m up and done with my paper a half hour before the time. Whilst I hand it over, I scan the examination hall, filled with familiar faces racing their hand down the paper trying to write more than what they had learnt the previous night. These mates of mine are so well prepared and then there’s me, taking chances and fooling around with examinations.

I rushed out of the hall and into the corridors to join some of my friends who were busy counting chickens and discussing the said paper. Whilst we were waiting for our other friends, we run-through to each other our summer plans.

The said other friends were out and we promised we’ll meet up in summer and exchanged our good-byes and rushed through the exam-centre’s gate welcoming in the summer holidays!

(Hope ya'll have a good one!)
